Brad and Angelina create "serpent-themed" jewelry for luxury line, Asprey

Angelina is wearing the bracelet below.

I'd like the black ring on the right.
Stephen? Merry Christmas? (As IF.)

It appears that I'm in the minority about loving Brad and Angelina's foray into jewelry design. Specifically, their line with Asprey called "The Protector", which is a serpent-based design. Okay, maybe the baby spoon is, well, unusual, but the rest of the line is GORGEOUS. Stunning--I'd wear a piece of the line in a heartbeat. I adore pave` diamonds and the rings and bracelets are just so cool and elegant.

All kinds of other bloggers are bitching about the whole "snake-theme" as if to insinuate how "evil" these two are. Oh come ON. Take it for what it is...snakes on a wrist--for a good cause.

"Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are adding another job to their resume: jewelry designer.

The couple are creating a high-end line with Asprey called "The Protector." The baubles will consist of diamond, black diamond and emerald pavé rings, bracelets, earrings, men's cuff links, and dress studs -- in the shape of snakes.

Why the serpent theme? According to Women's Wear Daily, Jolie was given a snake ring designed by a different jeweler while pregnant with Shiloh, now 3, and considers them to be the "protector of her family.

All of the proceeds will be donated to the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, which was co-founded by Jolie in 2006. The charity raises awareness and money to help educate child victims of war, conflict and natural disasters.

Says Jolie in a statement, "These are the children who most need a safe place to learn, a place to heal, a place to learn reconciliation, a place to build a better future and a place -- to just be children. Yet the education for these children is often forgotten. Tens of millions of children and adolescents in conflict are not in school."

Am I alone in loving these pieces?

David Bowie to release live 2-cd set January 26, 2010

"Cactus" by David Bowie

Sitting here wishing on a cement floor
Just wishing that I had just something you wore
So bloody your hands on a cactus tree
Wipe it on your dress and send it to me

Yeah, I know. It's ghoulish. But there's something about those lyrics (written by Black Francis of the Pixies) that I find, well...romantic. I've been on a bit of a David Bowie bender of late. Watching The Hunger and his Storytellers on VH1 has brought back some great memories of seeing Mr. Bowie twice in concert.

I tell ya what...at 60 years of age, I still find him incredibly attractive. The way he moves, sounds and looks...come ON.  I think maybe he really is a vampire. (I wish!)

via ONTD, Bowie's "A Reality Tour" was

"Recorded in Dublin, live versions span his entire career to-date, from "The Man Who Sold the World" (1971), "Changes" (1972), "Ziggy Stardust" (1972), "All the Young Dudes" (1972), "Rebel Rebel" (1974), "Fame" (1975)," "Heroes" (1977), "Ashes To Ashes" (1980), "Under Pressure" (1981), "I’m Afraid Of Americans" (1997), up through 10 songs from Heathen (2002) and Reality (2003) albums.

The lion’s share of songs that Bowie performed on A REALITY TOUR (and chose for release) were drawn from his two most recent albums at the time, 2002’s Heathen ( "Cactus" [written by Black Francis of the Pixies], "Sunday," "Slip Away," "Afraid," and "Heathen [The Rays]"), and 2003’s REALITY ("New Killer Star," "Reality," "The Loneliest Guy," "Never Get Old," and "Bring Me the Disco King," "Fall Dog Bombs The Moon").

In addition to Bowie, musicians on A REALITY TOUR include Gerry Leonard (band leader/guitar/vocals), Sterling Campbell (drums/vocals), Earl Slick (guitar), Gail Ann Dorsey (bass guitar/vocals), Catherine Russell (keyboards/vocals/percussion/guitar), and Mike Garson (keyboards). "

Speaking of Gail Ann Dorsey...I saw her perform with Bowie. Her vocal prowess on Under Pressure was breathtaking. (She sang Freddie Mercury's parts.) I love her look, her bald head and her voice is spectacular.

My favorite David Bowie album is Young Americans, and Fascination (written by Bowie and Luther Vandross) is, I think, my favorite song. That entire album hasn't aged one day since it was released in 1974.

Check this video out, from the old Dick Cavett Show. If you'll notice, the late, great Luther Vandross is singing backup. Awesome find, if I do say so.

I'm certainly taking the stroll down memory lane lately. Oh well...Bowie. Is. TIMELESS.

Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week - My Personal Favorites

This is just a quick little rundown of some of my favorite looks from Fashion Week - NYC.

I have a definite style. I love the classic Dior "New Look" from 1947, which why I adore finding gorgeous vintage dresses when I can. Last year's Christian Dior Collection by John Galliano during Paris's Fashion Week has completely stuck with me. I have the images saved to my computer for reference.  Oh. I'm rambling about LAST year....

So. THIS year, I love Christian Siriano's lovely collection. It is indeed, reminiscent of his Project Runway Collection (for which he won Season 4!), and has a bit of Dior added, so of course I love it. I don't want Christian to fade into obscurity the way so many other "reality stars" do (whyyyyyy won't Jon Gosselin just dis-a-freaking-PPEAR??). Christian's hilarious personality and God-given talent need to be in the forefront. He's truly gifted. The bottom three looks above are his, but see what I mean about Christian's dresses looking rather like the Dior Collection below?

I COVET these two Christian Dior dresses....drooool.

Normally, I'm not the biggest Jean-Paul Gaultier fan, but I love this black  dress (the very first photo at the top.). The head-gear? Not so much.

Who are y'all loving this season?

My Gift to YOU...and me.

Uhhh. ..yeah...ummm..
Look at that smile...
Oh, David Beckham's back. No. really...
his BACK.

I understand that David Beckham returned from playing socc--um, football in Milan to his MLS team the Los Angeles Galaxy. The Galaxy beat the New York Red Bulls last night 3-1. Apparently Becks was greeted with boos from the crowd. Blah, blah, blah....

Oh, whatever. He's David Bloody Beckham. Take a good, hard look.

Sigh. Happy sigh.

Ladies and Gentlemen. A REAL Actor - Johnny Depp

Johnny

Johnny collage from Vanity Fair Magazine, July '09

You hear me talkin' to ya, Pattinson? (God, he's stupid.) Wow. I'm totally "Twilight"-bashing today, but now's as good a day as any, I think. The sparkly vampire will never, ever come close to The Depp, in terms of, well anything.

So here's our Real Actor, Johnny Depp, in July's Vanity Fair. Oh and here's another VF poll:

"Is Johnny Depp the most handsome man alive?" Vote in VF.com’s poll.

You'll find the partial article on the same site--you gotta buy the magazine for the whole thing--which I will do promptly. For now? Just enjoy the photos above. How 'bout that painting Johnny did of Marlon Brando? Is there nothing he can't do?

Home Again, Home Again--Jiggitty Jig!

We're home. I gotta tell ya (again), I LOVE traveling with my husband. LOVE it. Stress-free. Fun. Loud music. Singing along. The video of the one of the songs we listened to (and I danced in my seat) is The Song of the Day for ya'll.

No matter how old this song is, I still blast it. There aren't all that many songs that I love now as much as I did the first time I heard them from 20 years ago, but "Suicide Blonde" by INXS (oh, Michael Hutchence...) is one I'm proud to admit to singing and dancing to in 2009. I dare you to watch this video and not be astounded by this band in all its glory.

There will never be another Michael Hutchence. Slinky, sexy and gorgeous.

Turn up your speakers.

Padma? Seriously? Really??

I'm SO sure!!
Remember when Paris Hilton did that gross Carl's Jr. commercial with the washing of the car and the eating of the big ol' burger? THAT was almost more believeable than this one with gorgeous Padma Lakshmi from Bravo's Top Chef wolfing the new bacon burger from Hardee's. (Plus, as beautiful as she is, they photographed her in a way that she looks like Angelina, don't you think? Or maybe I'm obsessed.)
ANYnotinamillionyears. That burger looks good. Remember, I'm not eating meat. But not for ethical reasons.

Stevie Wonder Brought Barack and Michelle Obama Together--and KEEPS Them Together.

President Obama enjoying an evening at the
White House with Stevie Wonder

People Magazine is reporting:

"From the sounds of it, we can thank Stevie Wonder for the very existence of the new First Family. "I think it's fair to say that had I not been a Stevie Wonder fan, Michelle might not have dated me," President Barack Obama said at a White House concert before presenting the singer with the Gershwin Award for Lifetime Achievement. "We might not have married. The fact that we agreed on Stevie was part of the essence of our courtship." The East Room of the White House was transformed into a concert hall, featuring a high-wattage lineup of Wonder, Tony Bennett, Diana Krall, Martina McBride, Paul Simon and will.i.am. The performances are scheduled to air Thursday night on PBS."

and the new First Lady added this tidbit:
Michelle Obama called Wonder "one of the world's greatest artists" and said that Wonder's Talking Book was the first album she bought.
Prepare for the usual gush-fest. Michelle looked uh-maaazing in a green sleeveless empire-waisted gown designed by Stevie Wonder's wife, Kai Milla. Michelle wore her hair a bit wavy and looked just luminous. This woman is a style icon, plain and simple. Take a look for yourselves...

Wow. Just WOW.

Your Daily Beckham...

Those two again...

I'm actually exhausted looking at my darling Beckhams today. Just imagining the amount of time they spend grooming to attend yet another fashion show in Milan wears me out. Nevertheless, I appreciate that they go to the trouble. Look at how Victoria is standing. I wish I had the wherewithall to pose like that when I'm in line at Safeway...but I guess my velour sweats and black Uggs don't quite have the same panache.

Dammit.

Victoria Beckham - On the Floor in Her Armani Knickers

Call me!
a>
Victoria joins David in Armani undies...

The photo above of Richard Gere in American Gigolo just solidifies my old-school frame of reference. While I love the new advertising campaign for Armani lingerie featuring Victoria Beckham (just like hubby, David), photographed by Mert and Marcus (who shot the gorgeous Lindsay Lohan layout in this month's "Interview" magazine, remember?) it totally reminds the iconic Julian Kaye character portrayed by Gere in 1980 (!).

Speaking of Julian Kaye--that's just one of my nicknames for Patrick. When he's feeling particularly tremendous, he does this walk where he's kind of tipped over backwards, much like Julian Kaye. My favorite walk, though, is his "hoop skirt" entrance into the party. Belle of the Ball! (And announcing a` la Scarlett O'Hara, "I don't know WHICH of you boys is the handsome-est!) Let's not forget the "he walked in..to the party...like he was walking onto a yacht...", You're So Vain entrance. Oh, Patrick.

Wow. Wasn't this post supposed to be about Victoria Beckham?

Scarlett Johansson Bugs Me...

Scar-Ho on February's cover of Bazaar
My dream dress...

Scarlett Johansson is on my last nerve, and has been for a few years now. I'm sick of her walking around like she's the It Girl simply because dirty old men like Woody Allen drool over her. I don't care for the cover of Harper's Bazaar, but I love the inside photo--and I COVET that dress. Wow.
