As Stephen and I got closer to the beachfront hotel where my reunion was taking place, I told him I was feeling hysterical all of a sudden. Like I was gonna freak. Right. Out. You know, that laughing and screaming feeling   that sneaks up on you? That one.


We walked in...and I recognized NO ONE initially. I also found myself reverting back to my withdrawn high school self (although others have different memories of me). I was terrified to approach anyone that I did recognize. There is no WAY I could've walked in that place without my sweet husband. 


Eventually, I heard my name being called by my girls and I had already downed a nice gin and tonic (extra lime, please). The line I gave the most was to the male population: "You didn't give me the goddamn time of DAY back in high school--and now you want a HUG?" I was half-kidding. I guess I didn't hit my prime back in high school, like so many do, and I felt a little sassy. Did I have a grudge or two? I suppose so, but nothing vicious. It really is crazy to feel that way, and I'm glad it dissipated. It's all good.



Mostly, I was just so happy to see my girls. I've kept in touch with Joanne, who is as STUNNING as ever, and it was a great, loud and hilarious dinner with Rose, Katy and Jeanne the night before the reunion. I also wanna give a shout out to Tommy, Jackie, Patti, Michael, Tracy, Mary, Mike V. (who got a LOT of verbal abuse--sorry, dude!), and MAUREEN!!



I'm really, really glad I went. Class of '79--what the HELL? We can't be that old.

I was determined not to like this girl. I was positive Lady Gaga would just go away...quickly and quietly. I'm not usually wrong about stuff like this--ask anyone--but I will admit it now: I was wrong about Lady Gaga. 

How often do we get to be excited about music videos anymore? Man, BACK IN MY DAY, we had TRL. Yeah. 'Member that? Videos. Lots of 'em.

Oh, what a time we had on Halloween this year. As I mentioned, I kept torturing Stephen by not making a decision as to whether or not I wanted to DO anything this year...

Oh, we DID it all right. We hooked up with our Sugardaddy's , Tim and James and Julie and David and our new friends Cheryl and Tish. (Everyone sorta becomes your friend on nights like Halloween, but these were the Real Deals.)

OhgoodLord. I trotted around yesterday more than I have in ages. (Not counting chasing my MeatPie grandson around!) I needed to get me "some pretty" for my big "Taste and Tweet" at Icon Grill later in the evening.

James (and his assistant, Dante`--or Durwood, as James calls him) gave me some fierce hair yesterday. After all of the boys had a good, hard laugh (ahem) at my "peen thumb" they got down to business by making my head at least, live up to my screen name--DIVA. Oh, Sugardaddy's Salon, and I love my Boys! 

Afterward, I drove like a nut into the city for April to work her magic on my eyelashes. I leave the Dina S. Good Salon feeling so pretty every. Single. TIME. I cannot recommend her eyelash extensions enough. Worth every penny.

While we're on the subject of "worth every penny", y'all should know this: I do not get, nor do I expect free services from these hardworking artists. In this ecomony, it's important to keep these kinds of businesses IN business. I appreciate the lovely people who keep me looking good. So, given the fact that I am in no way compensated for my glowing reviews--rest assured that my opinions of these fabulous salons are from the heart...not the pocketbook.

Yeah, I know. It's ghoulish. But there's something about those lyrics (written by Black Francis of the Pixies) that I find, well...romantic. I've been on a bit of a David Bowie bender of late. Watching The Hunger and his Storytellers on VH1 has brought back some great memories of seeing Mr. Bowie twice in concert.

I tell ya what...at 60 years of age, I still find him incredibly attractive. The way he moves, sounds and looks...come ON.  I think maybe he really is a vampire. (I wish!)

Speaking of Gail Ann Dorsey...I saw her perform with Bowie. Her vocal prowess on Under Pressure was breathtaking. (She sang Freddie Mercury's parts.) I love her look, her bald head and her voice is spectacular.

My favorite David Bowie album is Young Americans, and Fascination (written by Bowie and Luther Vandross) is, I think, my favorite song. That entire album hasn't aged one day since it was released in 1974.

Check this video out, from the old Dick Cavett Show. If you'll notice, the late, great Luther Vandross is singing backup. Awesome find, if I do say so.

Nicole Richie is in labor!!!

Any second now!!

Nicole Richie is said to be in labor at an L.A. hospital. I wonder if they are trying for a 9/9/09 baby?? (I guess they don't have much to do with it, unless she has a c-section?)

"Nicole Richie checked into a local Los Angeles hospital over the long Labor Day weekend in anticipation of giving birth to her second child. Richie had apparently wanted to be able to pay her last respects to ex-fiancé Adam Goldstein (aka DJ AM) before heading to the maternity ward.


Richie already has a 20-month-old baby girl named Harlow with boyfriend Joel Madden. The pint-sized fashion designer was due to give birth in early September, so it looks like baby number two is right on time. Madden had previously stated that this second pregnancy was much easier on Nicole than the first. "You've already been through it and it's not as intense and dramatic," Madden said. "We're a little more relaxed. It's actually kind of nice"


The couple refused to find out the sex of the baby until the birth, telling press, "We don't know what the sex is. We waited on the first one and it was such an awesome experience that we can't wait to see what the next one is. It's exciting to wait it out."

That's not what I heard...Nicole was seen buying tons of BABY BLUE items a little while back...hmmmm. I can't wait for the name of this baby--Harlow Winter Kate is so beautiful, you just know this little bundle will have an equally precious name!

Pee Wee Herman's Comin' Back!!!

Oh, Pee Wee!!!

OhHappyDAY. Pee Wee Herman is coming back!! Even though I have a tendency to sound like a self-righteous church lady when it comes to the Cyrus girls and their love of pole dancing, I'm proud to say I raised both my boys on the humor and delight of Pee Wee Herman, and if Paul Reubens brings his live show to Seattle, we are THERE.

We loved Pee Wee's Big Adventure and Pee Wee's Playhouse, but the one this still gets the biggest laughs--even now--is the live stage show at the Roxy Theatre he performed for an HBO special back in 1982.

"I've put part of him [Pee Wee] away for a long time but part of him has always been here with me," the soft-spoken actor said in an interview today. "I think it will be like riding a bike -- which is not a bad analogy for Pee-wee, by the way."

One Christmas, I think Alex was in kindergarten, Santa (ahem)brought the best presents ever...it was all Pee Wee Herman!! Under the tree, he found the full-sized Chairy, Pee Wee jammies and matching robe, colorforms (remember those?), a sweatshirt, all the miniature characters from Pee Wee's Playhouse, and the giant ventriloquist Pee Wee. I'm sure I'm forgetting a bunch of other cool things.

I love when my readers collaborate with me here on Dipped in Cream! My lovely reader, Heather sent me her review and some pictures of Depeche Mode's concert here in Seattle earlier this week.

Here is Heather's review, ya'll!

"Seattle Wa. August 10th 2009-

Depeche Mode, my all time favorite band, never disappoints. What an amazing show they put on! Energy, electricity... sheer sex appeal just reverberates through the stadium. Opening song, In Chains, amazing. Gives the whole mass of fans a taste for the direction of the concert. Want, need, longing, seems to be the subject matter of the play list. Wrong, of course, the mega song from their latest album, Walking In My Shoes, It's No Good (yummy) Precious, Home, Come back, In Your Room, I Feel You, Enjoy the Silence, Stripped, Never Let Me Down Again, Strange Love, Personal Jesus, Master and Servant, and last but not least, to bring everyone back down out of their haze, Waiting for the Night. By the last set... Dave pretty much lost his voice, but went out with a bang!

Of course with true Depeche Mode fashion, they gave two fantastic encores, and left the crown begging for more.

With all the recent health issues lead singer Dave Gahan has been dealing with, the only clue we had was that he was a little timid in his normally swanky and exuberant stage persona. A lot of spinning and swaying to the beat was his method of choice for this venue. Still a great act, amazing stage presence. Can't wait for the next tour.

Awesome, Heather! This is one band I've never seen, but I KNOW I would've loved it. My favorite song by DM is "Personal Jesus". I even love the version Johnny Cash did--very haunting.

"ok ok we get the hint after you scold us in your blog, lol.
ok first and foremost, she not only sang live, not once lip synced (ahem, Brit?) but sang on key all the while dancing to the most intricate choreographed steps. she payed homage to 80's Madonna with 'dress you up' 'into the groove' 'holiday' 'la isla bonita' and ' like a prayer' along with her currents songs from Hard Candy. Paul Oakenfeld opened for her, who is an amazing dj. THE BITCH MADE EYE CONTACT WITH ME 5 TIMES!!!! The world can end now, sigh.

Here are some pics, kinda blurry (thanks blackberry, but 2 you can see her look at me (if you look really close) ) and she was so gracious about people taking pictures of her as well. it was at the m.e.n arena (manchester evening news) the largest arena in e-land. the only incident that happened was a chain that was supposed to be secured to the lighting came off on one end and plonk, hit a fan on the head, almost knocked her out, and i was so jealous cause YOU KNOW she got to meet the bitch after that.

I'm sure everyone here knows which version I prefer between these two. It's not that I loathe Coldplay or Chris Martin...just his wife, Paltrow. Having said that, there really is no comparison.

Chris Cornell's cover of Michael Jackson's classic, "Billie Jean" soars into the stratosphere with that voice of his. I'm thrilled I was able to see him sing this when he played in Seattle.

Every time I hear a story of Johnny Depp being a gracious sweetheart, I think he couldn't possibly get anymore wonderful. But here he goes again:

"Actor Johnny Depp reportedly stunned a waiter in Chicago after leaving a $4,000 tip following a late-night dinner.

Digitalspy reports that the 'Public Enemies' star had been dining at Gibsons steakhouse with friends, including co-star Marion Cotillard and director Michael Mann, following the movie's premiere.
Speaking to RadarOnline, waiter Mohammed Sekhani said: "He may be one of the most famous actors in the world but he is a very humble guy and a really cool dude.

"Obviously, I was delighted with his tip but he has always been very generous every time that he has visited us here at Gibsons."
Sekhani went on to say that Depp, who arrived at the restaurant at around 11.30pm, had ordered "some $500 bottles of Italian wine" and a range of appetizers for his guests before leaving at 2.30am.

"He is a very soft spoken guy who is very charming and sweet - when I wait for him he doesn't like to be too fussed over and is not in any way demanding."

First Look at Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland" With Johnny Depp!

"Alice in Wonderland" is being "Burton-ized". Tim Burton is taking the Lewis Carroll classic and making it his own, starring his usual leading man, Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter.

I love Tim Burton...always have. Ever since he directed "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure", "Pee-Wee's Playhouse" on CBS back in the mid 80's I have seen every movie he's directed, including his eye-popping, dark and emotional films (two of the "Batman" franchise movies, "Edward Scissorhands", "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory", just to name a few.)

Tim and Johnny Depp are BFFs, and love working together. The two have made unusual films that are visually stunning, and always a bit heartbreaking. I actually can't watch "Edward Scissorhands" anymore because of Johnny's facial expressions. The are just too sad...but that's the point, I suppose.

I'm really looking forward to "Alice in Wonderland"--but we all have to wait until March 5, 2010!! Sheesh.
