Seattle SNOW!! **UPDATE ON COOKIES**

So, so pretty... Snowy Space Needle!

We woke up to 6-7 inches of snow this morning!! We NEVER get snow this early in the season, and it's just lovely.
Here's the thing about Seattle snow, though. Everyone FREAKS. RIGHT. OUT. It's not like the midwest or east coast, where road crews are prepared for this kind of weather. No no no. Everything comes to a complete STOP. The freeways are a mess, and the offramps are even worse. Stephen was all set to go to work today--they were having a nice potluck at lunch. He had been making his amazing chili, from scratch of course last night. (Does anyone else get an uncontrollable hacking cough from onions? I felt like my chest was filling up with noxious fumes and I was going to keel over in a sweat! What was THAT all about?) So, Stephen was getting ready to go to work this morning, and I was trying not to sound like a total alarmist, BUT, when the local news is on for SIX straight hours due to the weather and traffic sitch, you better take notice! I told him I could just see him: Some dumbass rearending his car--and scalding chili splattering all over him. I may have made my point, because he's home. We're going to make delicious cookies and decorate them. Here's the recipe were using:

CHEWY SUGAR COOKIES

Ingredients
2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup softened butter
1 1/2 cups white sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 to 4 tablespoons buttermilk
Sprinkles or colored sugar, for decorating
Directions
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
In a small bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg and vanilla. Gradually blend in dry ingredients. Add enough of the buttermilk to moisten the dough and make it soft, not wet.
Roll rounded teaspoons of dough into balls and place on a ungreased cookie sheet. With a brush or fingers, moisten the top of each cookie with the remaining buttermilk and slightly flatten the top of each cookie. Sprinkle with raw sugar or colored sprinkles.
We're using a decorating pen and filling it with melted chocolate. Mmmmm.
Let me know if any of you try this recipe!!

Oh. My. Goodness. These cookies are pure perfection. They didn't need ANYTHING like chocolate on them...we just brushed them with buttermilk and sprinkled with superfine plain, white sugar. They are chewy and amazing!

Beautiful pix!! Yes, Seattle is about as unprepared as Las Vegas, where they got 4" yesterday. The bf said that the roads were an absolute nightmare, and people's cars were all over the place. Silly desert dwellers don't know what to do with a little snow!!
Glad Stephen stayed home and alleviated your worry. The sugar cookies sound delish!!
