Critic's Choice Awards...Winners?

"The Dark Knight" director, Christopher Nolan accepting the Best Supporting Actor Critic's Choice Award for Heath Ledger's portrayal of The Joker
Mickey Rourke, who was nominated for Best Actor for "The Wrestler" looking less scary-creepy than usual.

Anne Hathaway, giving her strange acceptance speech for winning Best Actress (TYING with Meryl Streep?) for "Rachel Getting Married"

THESE two again.

Last night the Critic's Choice Awards were presented at the Santa Monica Auditorium on Los Angeles. This year, I'd really like to make a point of seeing these movies. Patrick just saw "The Reader" with Kate Winslet (who won Best Support Actress last night for her role), and said it was amazing. (Patrick didn't care for "The Dark Knight"--what is WRONG with him? Heath Ledger made my eyes pop out of my head as The Joker. With all of the character's little nervous tics and crazy-assed fearlessness, what was not to LOVE? When he (The Joker) screamed at Batman to "C'mon! HIT ME! HIT ME!"--I couldn't breathe.) Anyway. Heath won Best Supporting Actor lastnight. Here is a list (another LIST! Awards Season, here we come!) of last night's winners:

Winners at Thursday's 14th annual Critics' Choice Awards:
• Picture: "Slumdog Millionaire"
• Actor: Sean Penn, "Milk" Watch the commercial for this movie--keep an eye on the way he moves his elbow and wrist. It's hilarious...Stephen and I copy Sean every single time we see it. "Best Wimpy Arm Wagging" goes to...
• Actress: Tie: Anne Hathaway, "Rachel Getting Married," and Meryl Streep, "Doubt" Did anyone else see Anne's acceptance speech? I wonder how many more people she could have insulted while insinuating that she and Meryl were so much better than everyone else. She managed to gain sympathy when referring to her dad, who told her she's "worthy of love" since she was so screwed over by that criminal boyfriend who's rotting in jail now.
• Supporting actor: Heath Ledger, "The Dark Knight"
• Supporting actress: Kate Winslet, "The Reader"
• Acting ensemble: "Milk"
• Director: Danny Boyle, "Slumdog Millionaire"
• Writer: Simon Beaufoy, "Slumdog Millionaire"
• Animated feature: "WALL-E"
• Young actor/actress: Dev Patel, "Slumdog Millionaire"
• Action movie: "The Dark Knight"
• Comedy movie: "Tropic Thunder"
• Picture made for television: "John Adams"
• Foreign language film: "Waltz With Bashir"
• Documentary feature: "Man On Wire"
• Song: "The Wrestler," Bruce Springsteen, "The Wrestler"
• Composer: A.R. Rahman, "Slumdog Millionaire"
• Joel Siegel award: Richard Gere
I'm not really going out on a limb here, but expect "Slumdog..." to sweep the Oscars. Wow.
